One is my own dog named Lotty and the other is Can, the naughtiest Golden Retriever from my hubby’s working place a hotel.
As soon as Can sees our car, it’s like he’s won the lottery! He leaps in, ready for action. You’d think he’d be tireless the hotel’s expansive 160,000-square-meter backyard. Seriously, that’s a lot of room to run! But nope, he’s always up for more. He likes to come home with me spending his weekends with three other furry pals in our yard.
This morning was perfect for hiking around Datça. The early sun was still gentle, and the air was crisp. The sandy path led us through lovely olive groves, bursting with vibrant spring flowers. It’s like Mother Nature pulled out all the stops just for us!
Can was his usual mischievous self, racing ahead and then circling back, tail wagging like he was the happiest dog alive. And I have to admit, his antics cracked me up. Who knew a dog could have such a flair for drama?

Can the Adventurous Golden Retriever: A Wild Tale in Datça
Let me take you back to a few months ago when our life was turned upside down. Can, the mischievous Golden Retriever, went missing for five days! Yes, five days! It all started when a Russian hiking group decided to venture out of the hotel and head to Mersincik. Hiking the Carian trail.
Now, if you haven’t hiked around Datça, you’re missing a treat. This part of the trail is about 19 kilometers of small donkey paths right next to the sea. These paths are absolutely stunning but provide no shops or water along the way. Just nature in its purest form, surrounded by breathtaking views.
Meanwhile, back at the hotel, chaos erupted. Picture this: sixty workers, all in a frenzy looking for Can! It was like a scene straight out of a comedy movie. Everyone had a different theory about the wandering child. He is still as naughty as a pup but 2 years now. Some thought he was scouting for food, while others suspected he was off chasing girls—classic Can!
Every hour felt like an eternity. I posted frantic updates all over Instagram and Facebook, pleading for any sightings of our beloved dog. Can’s absence was felt deeply; he was the hotel’s little mascot, bringing joy wherever he went. Loves to play around with a tennis bal. So as well for the workers and the guest he is very loved.
Finally, after five long days, someone called. They spotted a dog in Mersincik, and my heart skipped a beat! Can had found himself on quite an adventure. I couldn’t believe it. Five days of freedom and mystery had turned him into a little legend!
As I frantically gathered my things, I couldn’t help but think about the journey. After a rocky, bumpy hour-and-a-half drive, we set off. We even had a flat tire on the way, but nothing could stop me from getting this dog back! Can was worth every bit of hassle.
When we finally arrived at Mersincik, I spotted him from a distance. Can was prancing around like he was the king of the world. My heart swelled with relief as I called his name. He came bounding over, tail wagging like it was on a spring!
The reunion was sweet. Can was so happy to see us. He was clearly on a mission to find a nice girl! This boy is hopeless—he has a talent for charming both humans and dogs alike. After drinking 7 litres of water we got in the car.
Driving back home, I couldn’t help but laugh. Can’s little adventure around Datça had turned into a hilarious story for the family and the hotel workers. He had a new air of confidence, like he had just completed some grand quest.
